Formula 1

I have been watching F1 for years now and I have seen so many exciting races that have had very close passing manoeuvres (one of the best was with Nigel Mansell & Ayrton Senna Click Here) the sport has changed quite a bit since I have started watching it. The rules have change to be apparently safer. The cars have also moved on a hell of a lot. Again the cars have become very safe and very very fast. see Pictures of the difference in the cars from 1986 to present day :- Car 1, Car 2

The sport has had its fair share of up's and down's, an example of the bad times was on the 1st May 1994 where the late great Ayrton Senna had an fatal crash in his Williams,  the great time for me was when Damon Hill won his first world championship in 1996. unfortunately he retired in 1999. You can probably say I follow Williams because they normally get new drivers in and have a very good relationship with their drivers plus good with wacky designs for their aerodynamics on their car. i.e. the new nose on their 2004 car.

I’m adding this section to remember the late great Ayrton Senna, This tragedy will haunt Formula 1 for many years to come. Ayrton Senna was a triple world Formula One champion, Ayrton Senna brought with him seemingly limitless talent and single-minded will to win. On the track he could be almost aggressive yet off the track he was just beginning to show a more generous and thoughtful character to the outside world that those who knew him best had always known was there. Those brief shining years when Ayrton Senna, Mansell, Prost and Piquet would fight tooth and nail for the slightest advantage both on and off the track seem like so long ago. He died after having a fatal accident in his Williams at Imola on 1st May, 1994, during the San Marino Grand prix. This great racing driver was a talented driver that took on the other greats such as Nigel Mansell, Alan Prost, Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher.  I have a small video clip to look upon his great career. I will include a couple of pictures of the aftermath of the crash. (You may find these pictures upsetting)

Picture One, Picture Two.

There was some controversy over the crash, at first they thought it was driver error but after looking at the footage from the on-car cameras they agreed that it was some mechanical fault with the car.

Senna lost control of the Williams car that he was driving and hit the wall at the Tamburello at about 140mph. Senna's helmet was looked at and they found it was smashed by a suspension bar that pierced the helmet and he died of severe head injuries in the Ospedale Maggiore hospital a few hours later.

They also found out that Senna's steering column had been modified by cutting and welding it just before the race had started.

It was later found that the weld on the steering rod was not up to the FIA standards, which unfortunately may have caused the accident. Even after ten years they have still not confirmed the actual cause of the accident was the weld on the steering rod.

The special prosecutor decided there was enough evidence to bring charges of manslaughter against the Williams team. Since at the time it appeared that the bumps on the Imola track were quite deep and could have caused enough vibration to damage the welding on the steering column, charges were brought against the people in charge of the San Marino racing track as well.
Several people claim that the trial is just an attempt by an unknown magistrate to become famous using Senna's name. In reality, under Italian law all accidental deaths must be investigated if there is no obvious reason as to why the accident has happened.

On 16 December 1997 The six people on trial for the death of Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna have all been found not guilty of his death. They are: Frank Williams, Patrick Head and Adrian Newey (the two technicians of the Williams team who had designed and carried out the modifications to the steering column), Roland Bruynseraede (the FIA inspector who had approved the Imola track for racing), Federico Bendinelli and Giorgio Poggi (members of the management of the Imola circuit).

Three years after the death of Senna the trial is over. The trial ran from February and has generated lots of attention and harsh controversy, including a threat from members of FIA to exclude the Italian circuits from hosting F1 GPs and all other types of motor racing competitions over which FIA have control.

Fortunately this has not happened and we can still enjoy the Italian circuit.

Computers

Computers is my next interest, I like building new computers from scratch, this consist of buying the individual parts and making sure they are all compatible. I have built several computers for myself, my family and for my mates. I have used both Intel Pentium and Amd Athlon systems, I prefer using Amd Athlon, the reason for this is that the Amd chip is more efficient in processing or completing tasks set than the Intel chip, Plus the Amd chips are cheaper to buy. I would also like to move into working with computers as a career because I find them very interesting and enjoy seeing technology moving so fast which then I can see the benefits from them.

SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence )

The search for extraterrestrial intelligence is something I'm interested in because I HOPE we are not the only life in the universe. Quote from the film Contact Jodie Forster

"If it is just us then its an awful waste of space"

Unfortunately there has been no concrete evidence to suggest we have been visited by ufo's but if I can help to search for ET I will. SETI is a data analyzing program which downloads radio signals from SETI'S website, the radio signals are collected by a huge dish. Then the program will sit there and analysis it the unit. When it is finished it will ask you to transmit the unit back to the SETI website which then they check for any unusual signals within that unit.

I like fishing because it is very relaxing and can be rewarding, the biggest fish I have caught is a mirror carp which weighed in at 8lb, I have not been for a while but I will try to find a new lake and start up again this year.
